Sarkodie Is Lyrically Better Than Drake But Not Appreciated By Ghanaians Because He Raps In Twi
This is an unpopular opinion but it’s the truth. Following the release of Drake’s new album, Certified lover boy, many Ghanaian have taking to social media to share their comment about the new trending album. The zeal that many have shown towards the album following its release shows indeed that Ghanaians can support a course if indeed they intend to.
There have been a lot of Ghanaians who have shared their taught on the album, commenting that despite the hype and publicity surrounding the release of the album; it is nothing new or different from what drake has produced in the past. The lyrics are the same, the rhymes the same, the featured artists virtually the same except for a new entrant Tems from Nigeria who really didn’t add anything spectacular to the album. The album has since raised a lot of eyebrows and has drawn comparism from music lover who have compared it to Kanye West’s album, Donda.
However, the real issue is that how much do we appreciate our own artist here in Ghana and for that matter Africa? Sarkodie , who like most of the artist in Africa have shown that they can do better than what fans cheer to. Sarkodie is an artist that has set the pace when it comes to music in Africa and not just in Ghana. He is one of the very few artists who has won the BET IN Ghana single handedly but he is not given the respect he deserve. Take for instance a track by Sarkodie title “CEO Flow” In which we featured E-40 and you will appreciate the fact that we do not celebrate our own. When it comes to lyrics and rap flow, nobody does it better than Sark but just for the fact he raps in his own native language, he is not given the respect he deserves.

Sarkodie himself confirmed the fact in his track “Original” where he says ‘’ I spit in my language, but people think I am limited. I don’t believe that “. Following the release of the NoPressure album, sarkodie had to personally promote and share his own songs with very few Ghanaians assisting in pushing the craft. But when we have foreign artist releasing tracks of which sarkodie’s are better than, you see most Ghanaian faking love for rap music to hype the song as though they are music lover. In Ghana, Sarkodie is one of the exports of Ghana, he did it 10 years in a role and nobody could take his place. Today, Ghanaians enjoy Nigerians music and paly it all over. The reason why we see Nigerian music succeeding is because they support each other. Look at what Donjazzy is doing for the industry.
It is high time that Ghanaians understand that Sarkodie is one of the best thighs to have happen to the Ghanaian music industry.
